Wine bill hearing set for today

Thursday, March 04, 2010
House Bill 716 in the Maryland General Assembly, which would allow the direct shipping of wine to consumers, is set to have a hearing before the Economic Matters Committee Friday afternoon. The Senate version of the bill, SB 566, was scheduled to have a hearing on the same day before the Education Health and Environmental Affairs Committee, but that has been rescheduled for March 17.

The bill would repeal the Direct Wine Seller’s Permit and institute a new Direct Wine Shipper’s License that would not require a wholesaler and retailer to handle a wine shipment between a producer and a consumer.
